Mountain Lions Continue Homestand with Mountaineers
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team continues its 2012 season when they take on Western Colorado at 6 p.m. at Mountain Lion Stadium in their final non-conference home game for the season. This is the fourth home game of a six game homestand.
This is the first overall meeting between the Mountain Lions and the Mountaineers. The Mountaineers are in their first year as a program and are competing as independents this year since they were unable to enter the RMAC schedule when the program was announced in December. They will join the conference schedule in fall 2013.
The Mountain Lions are 3-0 to start the season for the second straight year and third time overall. UCCS is one of 31 schools that are undefeated in the nation in Division II. The Mountain Lions have the No. 24 ranked scoring offense in the nation. A win against the Mountaineers would be the first 4-0 start in program history and the first four-game winning streak in the five years of the program.
The Mountain Lions are led on defense by goalkeeper Kelly Schroeder who holds program records in career saves with 158 and in shutouts with seven. UCCS stands No. 21 in save percentage in the nation.
The Mountain Lions will be led on offense by Hannah Levett who has four goals including two in each of her last two games. Hannah Rather has two goals and is second on the team behind Levett. Levett is also in a tie for first in assists with two with Angela Castellanos and Jenna Gist.
Levett ranks fifth in game winning goals in the nation with two this season. She's also No. 11in points per game and No. 15 in the nation in goals per game.
