Mountain Lions Head to Winter Park to Start Training Camp
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Head Women's Soccer Coach Nichole Ridenour and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs team departed this morning for a week-long training camp and retreat in Winter Park, Colo., to start the 2012 fall practice season for the Mountain Lions. The team reported yesterday and held an early morning course workout before departing.
UCCS will train at more than 9,000 feet above sea level through Friday. Winter Park is one of the highest incorporated cities in the United States, and the highest according to certain interpretations, which means the Mountain Lions will be working with 27 percent less oxygen than at sea level. The team routinely practices and hosts home games at approximately 6,300 feet, which has 20 percent less oxygen than sea level.
The Mountain Lions will being classes next Monday, and then start a six-game home stretch on Aug. 31 with Fort Hays State.
