Friesen heads list of five Mountain Lions named academic All-RMAC
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its all-academic performers for the 2011 men's soccer season on Tuesday. UCCS senior Matt Friesen was named first team all-academic, senior, Mash Shaswar made the second team, and three other Mountain Lions, Eric Goldberg, Gabriel Causse, and Jabari Shaw were named to the honor roll.
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution.
Friesen currently has a 3.81 GPA in Sport Management and is second on the team in goals (four) and points (eight) even though he has only been able to play in seven of the twelve games. He is also third all-time in career points and fourth in career goals. Shaswar, a London, England native, is carrying a 3.83 GPA in his Sports Medicine Graduate program. He has played in eleven games and started six, scoring two goals. Goldberg has a 3.55 GPA and is a senior Health Care Science major. He has played in all twelve of the team's games and started in nine. He has one goal on just two shots on goal. Causse, from Ville La Grand, France, has a 3.68 GPA as a Junior in Sport Management. Shaw is also a Sport Management major. He has a 3.36 GPA and has started four of the six games in which he has played.
