Friesen named to preseason All-RMAC team, Mountain Lions tabbed seventh
COLORADO SPRINGS - Senior forward Matt Friesen was chosen as a member of the Preseason All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team according to the conference's preseason coaches' poll. Friesen and his University of Colorado Colorado Springs teammates were picked to finish seventh in the nine-team RMAC by the same poll, which was released Wednesday.
The Mountain Lions received 45 points in the poll. Each of the RMAC's nine men's soccer coaches ranked where he believed each team would finish 1-8, omitting his own team. Those numbers were added with the teams with the fewest points ranking the highest.
Colorado School of Mines received the maximum number of first-place votes possible, eight, and was atop the poll. Fort Lewis was picked second with 18 points, followed closely by Metro State (23) and Regis (25). Metro State got the first-place vote from Mines.
Colorado Mesa (40), Colorado State-Pueblo (44) and UCCS (45) were in a close race for fifth through seventh. Colorado Christian (59) and Adams State (62) brought up the rear.
Joining Friesen on the Preseason All-RMAC team were four members of the Mines team (Chike Sullivan, Tesho Akindele, Manville Strand and Baski Baker) and three from Regis (Kyle Enge, Ben Buhler and Taylor Diem). Also on the team were Fabian Kling and Thomas Hoang of Fort Lewis and Metro State's Scott Grode.
