Freshman goalkeeper Millar named RMAC defensive player of the week
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs freshman Kayla Millar was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's women's soccer defensive player of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Millar, playing in relief of Mountain Lions starting goalkeeper Ashley Armstrong, recorded her second shutout of the season after notching seven saves against New Mexico Highlands in a 1-0 win.
She joins Armstrong as the only UCCS women's soccer players to be named players of the week this season. In 2008, UCCS' first season with women's soccer, then-goalkeeper Amie Kern was honored three times, meaning that all five UCCS player of the week awards since the inception of the women's soccer program have gone to goalkeepers.
Millar has now played in five matches this season, posting a 2-3 record and a 72.2 save percentage.
