Armstrong named RMAC defensive player of the week
Ashley Armstrong, goalkeeper for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, was announced Tuesday as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference defensive player of the week.
Armstrong posted her second career shutout against previously unbeaten Colorado Christian Friday night, making five saves in the 2-0 win.
The senior from Castle Rock, Colo., came into this season with the unenviable task of replacing the Mountain Lions' lone representative on the 2008 first-team All-RMAC team, Amie Kern. Armstrong has more than lived up to the task, posting a 0.75 goals against average to date and a .875 save percentage.
Armstrong transferred to UCCS from Dana College prior to the UCCS women's soccer program's inaugural season in 2008. Previously, she starred at Douglas County High School.
