UCCS soccer chosen sixth in coaches' poll

By Doug Fitzgerald published August 21, 2006

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs soccer team was chosen to finish sixth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferenceâ€TMs preseason coaches' poll which was released Tuesday.

The prediction matches the Mountain Lions finish of a year ago. In fact, all seven places in the poll match the final 2005 standings. UCCS was 4-7-1 in the RMAC (6-10-1 overall) this past season.

Defending national champion Fort Lewis was, as expected, chosen to win the RMAC again in 2006. What was surprising was that second-place Metro State garnered two first-place votes. One of those obviously came from Fort Lewisâ€TM Jeremy Gunn since coaches canâ€TMt vote for their own teams. The other remains anonymous.

UCCS had no players named to the preseason all-conference team.
