Hovasse named defensive player of the week
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs goalkeeper Chris Hovasse was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference defensive player of the week for the week of Sept. 5-11, the conference announced Wednesday.
Hovasse earned two wins, giving UCCS a 2-0 conference record to start the season. Hovasse's first shutout came against the Colorado Christian Cougars. The Mountain Lion goalkeeper was aided by his defense, which only allowed three shots on goal.
Hovasse's second shutout of the week came against No. 20 ranked Colorado School of Mines. Against the previously undefeated Orediggers, Hovasse owned his net with four saves. The games were the first back-to-back shutouts in Hovasse's career and the first back-to-back shutouts for UCCS since 2000.
