COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Student-Athlete Advisory Council will hold a food drive to benefit Care and Share during Friday's RMAC basketball doubleheader against Metro State. Fans who bring two nonperishable food items will receive free admission for the games.

The food drive on Friday night is in addition to food collection efforts taking place by the SAAC in neighborhoods surrounding campus this week. Area residents who have received bags during the week can fill the bag with nonperishable items and leave them for pickup on the next day.

Care and Share operates a network that distributes food throughout southern Colorado with more than 325 partner agencies. The organization distributed more than 17.5 million pounds of food in the 2010-11 fiscal year.

The SAAC operates as a liaison between the Mountain Lion student-athletes and staff. The Council provides feedback on pending legislation, interacts with UCCS administrators and staff on issues specific to Mountain Lion student-athletes, and encourages community engagement among its members.
