UCCS offense gets boost with Crockett's return

COLORADO SPRINGS As collegiate coaches build their teams, there is always a lot of attention paid to who's coming in. Sometimes, though, the biggest gains are who's coming back.

Welcome back, Molly Crockett.

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs volleyball coach Keith Barnett announced Saturday that Crockett, an outside hitter who played for the Mountain Lions as a freshman in 2008 but left the team prior to the 2009 season, had been reinstated to the team for 2010.

Crockett was UCCS' leader in both total kills and kills per set in 2008, recording 287 and 2.71 respectively. The Coronado High School graduate also led the team in service aces (28) and was second in digs (322).

She left the team and enrolled at the University of Colorado in Boulder to pursue an academic track not offered at UCCS. Since then, however, she has changed majors, which has allowed her to return to both the Colorado Springs campus and the Mountain Lions volleyball team.

"The whole athletic department is thrilled to have Molly back in the fold here at UCCS," said Barnett. "Our team missed her influence last year and will look forward to all the positives she brings.

At Coronado High School, Crockett was named first-team all-area by the Gazette in both 2007 and 2006 and was a second-team selection in 2005. As a senior, she had over 300 kills, 132 digs, 25 aces, and 22 blocks while averaging nearly six kills per set.

"Her hitting prowess, passing, defense, and jump serve will be very beneficial come next season," said Barnett. "I'm also sure she will continue to excel in the classroom."
