DENVER - Cindy Bathelt had team-high totals of 15 digs and 24 assists as the University of Colorado dropped its second match Friday, this one a 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 13-25, 25-13) decision to the West Florida Argos at the Auraria Events Center.

UCCS dropped to 0-2 for the Colorado Premier Challenge tournament and 2-4 for the season. Having completed Friday's pool play, the teams will be seeded for bracket play on Saturday.

All four of UCCS' losses so far this season have been at the hands of a team listed in the most recent NCAA Division II national poll. Washburn, which beat UCCS earlier Friday, is ranked No. 4. UCCS has also been beaten by No. 21 West Texas A&M and Angelo State, which was ranked in the Top 25 when it beat the Mountain Lions and is now fourth among the "others receiving votes" in this week's poll. Friday's late opponent, West Florida, is third among the "others receiving votes."

Haley Shackleford led West Florida (2-3) with 14 kills and added 15 digs, second only to Anna Stoecklein's 19.

Alex Wood led the UCCS offense with 10 kills while Laura Loosbrock added eight. The Argos did a good job against UCCS' potent middle blocker duo, limiting Nikki Kinzer and Megan Koop to seven and three kills respectively.

Defensively, Wood and Skylar Lewandowski each had 14 digs while Kinzer and Bathelt each participated in five blocks.

The Mountain Lions offense was stymied in the first two sets, hitting a combined .000 (17 kills, 17 errors, 72 attacks). The results were predictable as West Florida won the first set 25-20 and the second 25-14.

Coming back from the break, it looked as if the teams had traded jerseys as UCCS dominated the third set, outhitting the Argos .241 to -.077.

The third set was tied at five when the Mountain Lions reeled off eight straight points with two kills by Alex Wood and a kill, a solo block and an assisted block by Nikki Kinzer. West Florida managed two straight points, after which the Mountain Lions went on a 5-1 run to take a 10-point lead. The advantage never got below nine as UCCS took the set 25-13.

Whatever was present during the third set, whether inspiration by the Mountain Lions or malaise by the Argos, was absent in the fourth. West Florida raced to an 11-3 lead before answering UCCS' modest three-point rally with a five pointer. The Argos cruised the rest of the way to take the set 25-13 and the match 3-1.
