UCCS proudly presents White Out Night tonight as the women's volleyball team (9-5, 4-2 RMAC) hosts Western New Mexico (7-9, 4-2 RMAC). Students can arrive at the Gallogly Events Center before the 7 p.m. start to pick up free t-shirts courtesy of the Mountain Lion athletic department. Community members, UCCS faculty and staff, and friends of family on the volleyball program are also encouraged to participate by wearing white shirts to the game.
Western New Mexico leads the all-time series with UCCS 8-4, but UCCS won the last meeting against the Mustangs 3-2 (15-25, 20-25, 25-20, 27-25, 15-13) on September 16, 2011.
The Mountain Lions will be back in action at the Gallogly Events Center on Saturday as they take on New Mexico Highlands (6-9, 2-4 RMAC) at 5 p.m. Mountain Lions lead the all-time series against New Mexico Highlands 17-16 and have won the previous seven meeting against the Cowboys dating back to Sept. 22, 2005.
UCCS is currently on a six game home winning streak, which is the best start since 2007 when UCCS finished 9-0 at home. The Mountain Lions aggressive attack proves to be the greatest indicator of their success. The team is 9-0 this season when they have a higher attack percentage than their opponents and they are 7-0 when they win the first set.
The Mountain Lions currently have a few records to watch for as a few members of the team are quickly moving up the all-time ranks at UCCS:
With his last win, head coach Keith Barnett becomes No. 2 all-time at UCCS in wins with 59. Barnett only trails Jessica Wood (2004-2008) who is No. 1 all-time in wins at UCCS with 78.
Senior middle blocker
Nikki Kinzer is currently No. 1 at UCCS in block assists in the rally scoring era (since 2001), and No. 3 all-time in school history with 291. Kinzer trails Tara Henry (1994-1997) who is No. 2 with 305 block assists.
Kinzer also currently ranks No. 8 all-time in the rally scoring era, for solo blocks with 33. She trails Brooke Akers (2006-2007), who is No. 2 with 41.
Lindsey Stich also finds herself atop the UCCS all-time leader board as she is currently No. 10 all-time at UCCS in assists with 1,319. Stich trailsCortney Weedman (2006-2007), who has 1346 all-time.
Some of these records could be broken this weekend at home. So join us for these potential record breaking events, as well as for White Out Night tonight at the Gallogly Events Center.
