LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs beats Colorado Christian University in four sets (8-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-15) on Friday night in the CCU Event Center. The UCCS Mountain Lions improve to 6-3 overall, and 1-0 in the conference.
The Mountain Lions got off to a slow start against the Cougars as UCCS fell 8-25 in the first set. The Mountain Lions had 13 errors in that first set, resulting in a 0-1 beginning to the match.
The second set would prove to be much more closely contested as UCCS would bounce back to win 25-22. The Mountain Lions were led in this set by Senior
Nikki Kinzer who had five of her eight kills in this set. Kinzer would finish the match adding five blocks and eight digs.
The Mountain Lions carried their momentum into the third set going on a 15-5 run to begin, and leading by as many as 12 on route to a 25-14 win. Middle blocker
Megan Koop helped UCCS control this set as she added four kills. Koop finished with a team-high of 12 kills, adding four blocks and one dig. Â
The fourth set was much like the third, as the Mountain Lions closed out the match, winning this set 25-15. UCCS was led in this set by freshman KimCatlett, as she recorded four of her nine kills in the set.
The Mountain Lions brought a well balanced offensive attack that was directed by senior setter Lindsey Stich, who had 38 assists.
The Mountain Lion defense was anchored by freshmen
Amanda Bloom who finished with seven blocks and three digs, while
Katie Maguire recorded a game-high 22 digs.Â
The team continues conference play as they take on No. 17 ranked Colorado Mines in Golden, Colo.Â
