COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (15-7 / 10-4 RRMAC) held a two-set lead against No. 15 Regis, but the Rangers (19-6 / 13-2 RMAC) took the next three sets in a 25-23, 25-19, 17-25, 26-28, 9-15 match tonight at the Gallogly Events Center.
The Mountain Lions were led in the first set by freshman
Kim Catlett who recorded four of her 13 kills in the set. Catlett also finished the match with 17 digs.
Senior blocker
Nikki Kinzer led the way in the second set as she had four of her team-high 14 kills and three of her game-high four service aces.Kinzer finished the game adding two digs and three block assists. Her production in this match moves her into a tie for first all-time in program history for career block assists. The reigning RMAC Player of the Month and RMAC Defensive Player of the Week now needs just one block assist to hold the all-time UCCS record for that category.
The Rangers answered back in the third set as the Mountain Lions never led on route to a 25-17 victory for Regis. The offense for UCCS was anchored in the third set by freshman
Grace Gordon who finished the set with five of her team-high 22 assists. Gordon also added nine digs and three service aces in the match.
Senior setter Lindsey Stich led the team in assists in the fourth set as she put in seven of her 20 assists in that set. Stich added six digs and two kills in the match. Libero
Katie Maguire also had her best set in the fourth as she added six of her team-high 20 digs in that set. She also added five assists in the match.
UCCS held off set point three times in the fourth set to tie the set at 24-24. The Mountain Lions held match point at 26-25 off a combination of kills from
Amanda Bloom and
Kim Catlett and miscues from the Rangers. Regis responded with a three-point run to close out the set and force the deciding the fifth set.
Jordan Banich made two of her eight kills in the fifth set. Banich finished the match adding 12 digs, with two block assists, one solo block, and one service ace on a team-high 38 attacks.
Bloom finished with seven kills, three block assists and one assist. Senior
Megan Koop added six kills, three block assists and one solo block to the Mountain Lions output.
