COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UC-Colorado Springs Head Volleyball Coach Keith Barnett is excited to announce the addition of seven student-athletes to the 2012 Mountain Lion roster. The incoming class represents a mix of National Letters of Intent and those who have been accepted and enrolled into classes for the fall semester.
The 2012 class includes four transfers, with
Amanda Bloom from Nebraska-Kearney, Stephanie Schlis from Western Colorado,
Katie Maguire from Arkansas Tech and
Jordan Banich from North Dakota State. Three student-athletes will join the squad after successful high school careers that ended last season, with
Grace Gordon from Grandview High School,
Kim Catlett from Rocky Mountain High School and
Sam Schroeder from Bear Creek High School.
The Mountain Lions finished two matches out of the competitive RMAC East Division last season. UC-Colorado Springs opens the 2012 season at the Grand Canyon Invitational Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in Phoenix, Ariz.
Jordan Banich - Redshirt Freshman - Outside HitterBanich transferred from North Dakota State where she redshirted her only season with the Bison. A graduate of Ralston Valley High School in Arvada,Colo., Banich was the first four-year letterwinner in program history. She was the team's Best Defensive Player in 2010 and the Best Offensive Player in 2011. Banich  earned All-Jefferson County First Team honors twice and was the Jefferson County Player of the Year in her senior season. She competed with the Colorado Juniors and helped lead the team to the Junior Olympics Open Division in both seasons. She was also active on the track and field team in the spring.
Grace Gordan - Freshman - SetterGordan graduated from Grandview High School in Aurora, Colo., this spring and led the Wolves to the 5A State Tournament three times as the starting setter. She was named to the Denver Post All-State team in 2009, the All-City team three times, the MaxPreps All-State Second Team in 2011 and was the starting setter for the 2011 All-State Games. Gordan was a two-time team captain and finished with more than 2,600 assists in her career. She also competed with the Colorado Volleyball Academy during the club season.
Katie Maguire - Redshirt Freshman - Libero/Defensive SpecialistMaguire will join the Mountain Lions after redshirting last season at Arkansas Tech. A 2011 graduate of Colorado Springs Christian School, she was a four-time letterwinner and a part of three 3A state championship teams. Maquire was the starting libero for the Colorado Juniors for five straight seasons and a member of two Junior National teams. She was a two-time all-region selection in club volleyball and a team captain.
Stephanie Schlis - Sophomore - Middle BlockerSchlis started 26 matches for Western Colorado as a true freshman. She recorded 150 kills, 52 blocks and was ninth in the RMAC with 22 service aces. She's a 2011 graduate of Colorado Springs Christian School where she helped lead the Lions to three 3A state championships. Schlis was a four-year starter and was a Denver Post Honorable Mentions student-athlete in 2009. She was also a member of the All-State team in 2010. Schliscompeted during the club season for the Colorado Juniors and ran track and field for Colorado Springs Christian, where she set the program record in the 4x400-meter relay. Due to conference transfer rules, Schlis will redshirt this season and compete in 2013.
Kim Catlett - Freshman - Outside HitterCatlett graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colo., this spring and led her team to the 2011 state tournament. She's a two-time Academic All-State First Team member and a three-year varsity starter for the Lobos. Catlett spent five seasons with the NORCO club program. She was active in high school in National Honor Society, Key Club, Fuse and the Joy Team.
Sam Schroeder - Freshman - Outside HitterSchroeder graduate from Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, Colo., and took the Bears to the district tournament in 2011. She's a three-year varsity starter, was selected for the 2012 CHSCA All-State Games and was nominated for the All-Jefferson County First Team in her senior season. Schroeder spent six seasons with the Front Range, Colorado Performance and Momentum volleyball clubs. She's also a two-year member of the National Honor Society.

She was an Academic All-State First Team member, named to the All-State teams by the CHSCA and CCGS and was an unanimous pick for the All-Jefferson County teams. Bloom was a two-year varsity starter and letterwinner, was named to several all-tournament teams and was named team captain in her final season. She played her club seasons with 5280.
