UCCS volleyball picked sixth in preseason coaches' poll

COLORADO SPRINGS - The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs volleyball team was picked to finish sixth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 2011, according to the conference's preseason coaches' poll that was released Tuesday.

The Mountain Lions received 76 points in the poll, in which RMAC volleyball coaches ranked each of their opponents 1-13, omitting their own team. Those numbers were added together with the team receiving the fewest points being the highest ranked.

Nebraska-Kearney received eight first-place votes and 19 total points to rank atop the poll. Metro State got the other six first-place votes and came in second, just one point behind Nebraska-Kearney. Colorado School of Mines was third with 45 points, giving the RMAC's Eastern Division each of the top three vote getters.

Colorado Mesa (formerly Mesa State) was selected to win the Western Division and take fourth overall with 58 points. The next three spots belonged to Regis (68), UCCS (76) and Colorado Christian (79), giving the Eastern Division six of the top seven teams.

The West followed with five straight team (Western New Mexico, Adams State, Fort lewis, Colorado State-Pueble and Western State, ranging from 97 to 133 points respectively. Chadron State and New Mexico Highlandfs rounded out the poll.

UCCS was shut out in the voting for the preseason All-RMAC team. Preseason Player of the Year Bri Morley of Metro State was the only unanimous selection, while teammate Ngoc Phan was tabbed the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Colorado Christian's Lauren Rosenthal was picked as the Preseason Setter of the Year.

Joining that trio on the Preseason All-RMAC team were Ellie Pesavento of Nebraska-Kearney, Christy Henzgen of Regis, Antoinette McCormick of Colorado Mesa and Angelina Pulu of Western New Mexico.
