Mountain Lions Spend Sunday Teaching Skills to Girl Scouts

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Members of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team taught skills to approximately 100 Girl Scouts from the area during the organization's Sports Extravaganza on Sunday at Doherty High School.

The Mountain Lions ran one of several stations and taught the Girl Scouts how to pass and set before the scouts worked on moving the ball over the net. The scouts were divided into smaller groups to provide more instruction on a personal level with the Mountain Lion student-athletes.

The volunteering at the Girl Scouts Sports Extravaganza is the latest in several community outreach efforts by UCCS student-athletes. The Mountain Lions have been active in working with students at the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind, with senior citizens in the Pikes Peak region, fundraising efforts for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the American Cancer Society; and with students in Kenya on an international scale.

NCAA Division II has promoted community engagement efforts since the adoption of the strategic positioning platform in 2005.
UCCS volleyball will hold its annual summer camps from July 22-30 in the Gallogly Events Center. The 2013 RMAC season begins Sept. 20 at home against Colorado Christian.
