9/5/2014 11:14:00 PM

Box Score CANYON, Texas – Kim Catlett finished a double-double on a team-high 15 kills and 10 digs as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (0-2) fell in three sets to Texas A&M-Commerce (1-1) in the second match of the BritKare Lady Buff Classic. The Mountain Lions dropped the sets by a combined seven points at 25-23, 25-23 and 25-22.

Both teams played in back-and-forth action in the first set with 15 ties and eight lead changes. Neither team led by more than two points until the Mountain Lions used a three-point rally to take a 12-10 advantage early in the set. The Mountain Lions didn't trail until the Lions put together a five-point run to break a 16-16 tie for a 21-16 lead. UCCS tied it again at 23-23 before Commerce closed out the set with back-to-back points.

Texas A&M-Commerce opened up large leads early in both the second and third sets that UCCS couldn't overcome in either set, but the Mountain Lions were able to pull back into each set in the later stages. The Mountain Lions used a 4-1 run late in the second set to make it 24-23 before a service error provided the winning point, and then held off three straight match points in the third set before committing an attack error at 24-22.

Catlett improved her attacking output from 13 kills in this morning's opening five-set match to 15 kills in the afternoon's three-set match. She has finished with double-digit digs in the last six matches dating back to Nov. 8, 2013, and her 15 kills were the second-best in her career.

Lauren Hahn and Cassidy Bush each added nine kills, and Bush added a match-high three service aces. Madison Palmer finished with one solo and one block assist at the net and Celeste Henderson led both teams with 34 assists.

The Mountain Lions will continue the BritKare Classic on Saturday with No. 6 West Texas A&M. The Buffs defeated Adams State 3-0 today, but fell in straight sets to Colorado Mesa in the night match. It was the first home loss for West Texas in 31 matches.
