Hahn Leads Offense in Mountain Lion Debut

Box Score CANYON, Texas – University of Colorado Colorado Springs transfer Lauren Hahn recorded 22 kills in her Mountain Lion debut to lead the UCCS offense as the Mountain Lions (0-1) fell in five sets to Eastern New Mexico (1-0). Scores went 22-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19 and 14-16 in favor of the Lady Zias in the season-opener for both teams.

Hahn led both teams in kills and with four service aces. Her 22 kills were the most for a Mountain Lions in a single match since Oct. 26, 2007. She also added two block assists and two digs on defense.

UCCS and Eastern New Mexico tied nine times and exchanged the lead six times in the opening set. The Lady Zias opened a 16-13 lead off a five-point rally, but the Mountain Lions brought the set back to within a point at 20-19 with a four-point run. Hahn had eight of her 22 kills in the opening set, but five team service errors limited the UCCS momentum in a 25-22 loss in the first set.

The Mountain Lions took a 4-1 lead in the second set, but Eastern New Mexico scored five of the next six points to take its first lead of the set at 6-5. A 6-2 UCCS run later in the set pushed the lead back to 12-9 for the Mountain Lions, and UCCS maintained the advantage for the 25-20 win to even the match. The Mountain Lions put together their best hitting performance of the day with a .241 attack percentage during the set.

The Lady Zias put together multiple runs in the third set to hold off the Mountain Lions and take a 2-1 lead, and UCCS did the same thing in the fourth set to force the deciding fifth set. UCCS took an early 4-2 lead in the set, and put together a 7-2 rally to lead 12-9. Both teams exchanged points to keep the Mountain Lions ahead at 13-10, but Eastern New Mexico closed out the set and the match with a 6-1 run to claim the 16-14 victory.

Kim Catlett recorded four of her 13 kills and five of her team-high 13 digs in the final set. Celeste Henderson took on the role as setter as a true freshman and finished with a match-high 47 assists. Cassidy Bush made a team-high three blocks, all in the fourth set.

UCCS will continue action later today at 4 p.m., MDT, with Texas A&M-Commerce. Commerce lost in four sets earlier today to New Mexico Highlands in the season-opener for those teams.
