Laura Gritz shot the second-best round of the season with an 81 to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the first round of the Regis Spring Invitational today at Fox Hollow Golf Course. The Mountain Lions are fourth in the eight-team tournament with a team score of 352.
Gritz finished the first round ranked in the top 10 of the field for scoring on par 4 and par 5 holes and was tied for fifth overall at nine strokes over par. It was her best opening round performance of the season and she is on pace for the first top five performance in a tournament in program history.
Jamie Zook and
Sierra Todd each recorded a pair of birdies and were second and third on the team, respectively, for the Mountain Lions today. Zook shot an 87 and was tied for seventh in the tournament on par 4 holes. Todd shot one stroke over par on the par 3 holes and finished with a 90 for her best opening round in her three tournaments this season.
Amanda Crites turned in the final team score for UCCS with a 94. Crites was two-over on the par 3 holes.
The Mountain Lions are third among the six RMAC teams in the tournament and is three strokes behind Colorado Christian. UCCS averaged a 7.5 stroke improvement from the first to second rounds in the fall season, and will begin the second round of the Regis Invitational on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m.
