Laura Gritz shot the best individual round in program history with a 78 as the Mountain Lions finished fifth at the Regis Spring Invitational today at Fox Hollow Golf Course.
The Mountain Lions improved by 16 strokes from yesterday's round and beat the previous season-best of 339 from the first round of the Lady Buff Stampede in Canyon, Texas, last October. UCCS was five strokes behind the third-place teams of Metro State and Colorado Christian.
Gritz made three birdies today on her way to the best round in the program's inaugural season. She beat her own program-best by a stroke and finished sixth overall for the best individual place by a Mountain Lion in program history. Gritz finished with the tournament's fifth-best score in second round with her 78.
Jamie Zook improved by two strokes to an 85 today to match her season-best score from the Grizzly Invitational on Sept. 29. She finished second for UCCS and No. 17 overall with a tournament score of 172.
Amanda Crites lowered her score by eight strokes in the second round to and 86 and finished No. 25 overall with a tournament score of 180.
Forre Zook improved her score by 20 strokes to provide the fourth team score with an 87 today in her second-best round of the season.
