Mountain Lions Fifth After First Round in Maverick Invite

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Laura Gritz put herself in position for her fourth top-10 finish of the season with an 84 in the opening round today to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team at the Maverick Spring Invitational hosted by Colorado Mesa. The Mountain Lions are fifth in the team standings.

Gritz was among the tournament leaders in scoring for par-5 and par-4 holes in the opening round and was seventh at 12 strokes over par. She is four strokes out of the top three and 11 strokes off of the leader.

Amanda Crites turned in the second team score for the Mountain Lions with a 90 in her second-best opening round of the season. Forre Zook recorded a pair of birdies in the first round and recorded a 91 in her best first round in the last three tournaments.

Raquell Castillo rounded out the team scoring for the Mountain Lions with a 95 in her first tournament of the spring season. UCCS recorded a 360 in its first round and was 10 strokes off of Regis and 13 strokes behind Colorado Christian.

The second round begins at the Redlands Mesa Golf Course at 8 a.m.
