8/18/2014 6:52:00 PM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs earned the No. 10 ranking in the 2014 RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll released this afternoon. The Mountain Lions were five points behind the ninth-ranked team, Colorado State-Pueblo.

The Mountain Lions will feature a young team with 10 freshmen among the 15 student-athletes. UCCS will get a chance to test themselves early with three teams in the eight-match non-conference schedule either ranked or receiving votes in today's AVCA Division II Preseason Poll.

Head Coach Chrissy Elder led UCCS to a tie for ninth in the RMAC during her first season in 2013. Kim Catlett leads the returners after 26 starts last season and 2.37 kills and 3.19 digs per set.

Five teams in the RMAC earned first-place votes, led by preseason favorite Colorado Mines. Mines, Metro State and Colorado Mesa were all mentioned among the nation's top teams in the AVCA preseason poll today.

The Mountain Lions begin the 2014 season at the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Classic with Eastern New Mexico on Sept. 5. UCCS opens the home season with the UCCS/CSU-Pueblo Classic Sept. 12-13 in the Gallogly Events Center.
