Gritz Finishes Seventh at Maverick Invitational

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Laura Gritz recorded her fourth top-10 finish of the season and matched her best score of the season with a 78 (+6) to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Colorado Mesa Maverick Spring Invitational. Gritz improved by six strokes from yesterday's first round to lead a 20-stroke improvement for the Mountain Lions.

Gritz matched her season best from the second round of last week's Regis Invitational and has finished in the top 10 of both tournaments this spring. Her six-stroke improvement was her largest of the 2013-14 season and it was her third round of the season under 80 strokes.

Raquell Castillo took 10 strokes off of her Monday round and shot an 85 in her second-lowest gross score of the season. She finished No. 24 among the 42 golfers for her third top-25 finish of the season.

Forre Zook made a three-stroke improvement to 88 and Amanda Crites improved by one stroke to an 89 to round out the team scoring for the Mountain Lions. The duo both tied for No. 20 overall with tournament scores of 179 at 35-over par. It was the second-best tournament of the season for Zook.

Up Next: UCCS will compete in the Wolf Pack Invitational at Colorado State-Pueblo April 14-15. It will be the final competition before the RMAC Championships April 21-22 in Phoenix, Ariz.
