Box ScorePUEBLO, Colo. - In a round that started late because of Sunday's snowstorm and ended just before darkness set, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team turned in its best team score of the 2013-14 season in the first round of the Wolf Pack Invitational at the Elmwood Golf Course.
Amanda Crites led the Mountain Lions in the first round and tied for No. 11 in the individual results.
UCCS tied for fifth in the first round with a 327 and good for 47 strokes over par. Today's performance beat out a +48 performance in the second round of the Regis Spring Invitational April 1, and it was the best opening round of the season by four strokes from the Lady Buffs Stampede in Canyon, Texas, Oct. 7. The Mountain Lions are tied with Metro and are six strokes behind fourth-place Regis and seven strokes behind third-place Adams State.
Crites shot a 79 for nine strokes over par in her best performance of the season by three strokes. She recorded birdies on holes 3 and 17 and was 3-over on the back nine. Crites is four strokes off of the leader after the opening round.
Forre Zook finished second on the team with an 81 for 11-over and is tied for No. 18 in the tournament. She matched her season-best round and recorded a birdie on hole 7. Her sister, Jamie, finished one stroke behind her with a season-best 12-over.
Raquell Castillo and
Laura Gritz tied for fourth on the team with 15-over par and were in a four-way tie for No. 25.
The Mountain Lions will conclude the tournament with the second round at 8 a.m., on Tuesday. It's the final tournament before UCCS competes in its inaugural RMAC tournament next week, April 21-22, in Arizona.
