Mountain Lions Finish Inaugural Campaign with Best Round and Tournament of Season

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team ended the inaugural season with it best round and tournament of the season and improved to seventh in the second round of the 2014 RMAC Championships today at the Wigwam Golf Resort. Laura Gritz recorded the best round for a Mountain Lion this season and finished in a tie for eighth overall in the individual standings.

UCCS improved by seven strokes from yesterday's open round and turned in a 325 for 37 strokes over par. The Mountain Lions cut 28 strokes off of its first round in program history on Sept. 7. The tournament score of 657 at 81 strokes over par was also an improvement of 42 strokes from the beginning of the season.

Laura Gritz shot a 77 for 5-over for a two-stroke improvement in the second day. She recorded her fifth top-10 performance of the season and her third of the four spring tournaments. Gritz finished the season with the five best rounds on the team.

Jamie Zook lowered her score to a season-best 81 today and finished with a season-best tournament of 20 over par with a 164. She tied for No. 21 overall for her third top-25 finish of the season.

Amanda Crites took five strokes off of her first round score with an 82 today for her second-best score of the season. She finished in a tie for No. 28 with a 169, one stroke ahead of teammate Raquell Castillo's tournament score of 170. Castillo turned in back-to-back 85 rounds for the final team scores for the Mountain Lions on both days.

UCCS had the fifth-best round among the 10 teams on the second day and finished two strokes behind sixth-place Metro State. The Mountain Lions made the third-largest team score improvement in the second round and moved from eighth to seventh in the team standings today.
