Dr. Glenn Williams
Williams and his wife, Joan, moved to Colorado Springs after he retired as an academic administrator at Eastern Illinois University in 1992. The two attended their first Mountain Lion softball game in 1993, and rarely missed any home games after that.
In 2007, the Glenn D. and Joan R. Williams Endowment for Women’s Athletics was established and has supported financial scholarship support for student-athletes in softball, volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s soccer, women’s track and field and cross country. The Williams also endowed another fund to support the softball coaching position.
Williams commissioned a sculpture, “Dedicated to Excellence,” by Denny Haskew of the National Sculptors’ Guild, for an unveiling in spring 2011. The sculpture showcased a UCCS student-athlete fielding a grounder, and was facilitated by Williams through the University of Colorado Foundation.
Williams was hospitalized prior to the sculpture’s dedication, which was delayed in an effort to allow him to attend. He passed away on April 28, 2011, and the dedication ceremony on May 6 doubled as a celebration of his life. Family members and officials from Eastern Illinois also attended the ceremony.
