Golf Tournament Features Full Field at Eisenhower
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Bill Lighty, Mike Grebenik, Doug Lohrey and Jonny Mills finished with a team score of 57 to claim the first place prize in the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lion Athletic Association Golf Tournament last Wednesday. The tournament featured 36 teams on the blue course at the Air Force Academy's Eisenhower Golf Course.
Three teams tied for second with a 58, but Greg Jones, Greg Stephens, Dave Malmquist and Jed Bowman earned the second-place prize after the tiebreaker procedure. Garry Mentzer, Don Brown, Ben Spiers and Chris Young earned the third-place prize after the second tiebreaker on the course.
In individual awards, Darin Vasquez and Lori Mitchell earned the prizes for closest to the pin on designated holes. Kirk Standley and Renee Zentz made the longest drives on hole No. 2.
The tournament was sponsored by Reliable Sanitation, El Paso Glass, Mortenson Construction and VIA Health. The tournament also featured an additional 14 hole sponsors: Blazer Electric, Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group, Fuse Sport, Hyatt House, Hyatt Place, Jimmy John's, Linx, Nunn Construction, On the Border, Pepsi Bottling Group, Robinson Dairy, Sodexo, Sports Authority and Windstar Studios.
The Mountain Lion Athletic Association Tournament helped raise money for scholarships for UCCS student-athletes. The Mountain Lions matched their best all-time finish in the RMAC All-Sport Competition Cup in 2012-13. UCCS has three nationally-ranked teams this fall and two more teams receiving mention in their respective regional polls.
