Mitchell Leads UCCS to Eighth Place at DII Invitational

SUNRIVER, Ore. - Dylan Mitchell shot a 72 for a 10-stroke improvement from his first and second round performances to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the GolfWeek Division II Fall Invitational at Sunriver Resort today. The Mountain Lions improved its team score by four strokes in the third round to make the improvement from No. 11 to eighth today.

Mitchell opened the third round with three straight birdies and finished his first nine holes at 1-under. He added another birdie on No. 10 and finished with an even 72 for the best round by a Mountain Lion in the tournament. It was the second-best round for a UCCS golfer in the fall season.

Dustin Dalzell continued to improve his score and finished at three strokes over par with a 75. He improved by seven strokes from his opening round yesterday morning for his third-best round of the season. Stephen Cook started his third round strong before he struggled on the final two holes of the round to finish at seven over. Patrick Skakel provided the final team score with an 80 at eight strokes over par.

UCCS tied with Simon Fraser with a three-round score of 941 and made a 19-stroke improvement from the first to the third rounds. The Mountain Lions finished five strokes ahead of RMAC member Colorado Mines in the tournament.

Up Next: UCCS continues the fall season at the second RMAC event in Pueblo, Colo., on Oct. 14-15.
