Kephart Begins U.S. Amateur Play on Monday Morning
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Former University of Colorado Colorado Springs golfer Alex Kephart will tee off at 5:30 a.m. MDT in the opening round of the 113th U.S. Amateur Championship in Brookline, Mass. He will begin on hole nine of The Country Club.
Kephart advanced to the U.S. Amateur with a 140 at a qualifying tournament July 21-22 at the Fort Collins Country Club. It will be the first United State Golf Association championship event for Kephart, who helped the Mountain Lions to the 2005-06 RMAC golf championship.
Kephart will play two qualifying rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday, and for one of 64 spots in the match play rounds that begin on Wednesday. He will be playing the first two days with Christopher Crawford of Bensalem, Pa., and Canadian Brian Jung. Crawford will be a sophomore at Drexel University and Jung will be a junior at Oregon State this fall.
