Mountain Lions Place Three on All-Region Teams
MACON, Ga. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs led the South Central Region with three selections in the 2013 PING All-Region Teams announced this afternoon. Kevin Witte, Eddie DeLashmutt and Spencer Biersdorff led the Mountain Lions to the program's fifth national championship appearance and the 11th RMAC championship in program history.
Witte led UCCS at the NCAA Division II National Championships last week and finished No. 14 at the national tournament with six strokes over par. He was the RMAC Champion and the runner-up at the Division II West / South Central Region Championships. Witte finished in the top three of the standings five times in the spring season.
DeLashmutt is on the PING All-Region team for the second time in his Mountain Lion career. He was the conference runner-up and finished in the top three in three straight tournaments in the month of April. DeLashmutt was an RMAC First Team selection, a member of the RMAC All-Tournament Team and the RMAC Golfer of the Week April 11.
Biersdorff earned his third All-Region award of his career and competed in all 13 tournaments for UCCS in 2012-13. He was a second team pick on the All-RMAC postseason teams and the RMAC All-Academic teams. Biersdorff finished in the top 10 of three tournaments in his senior season and nine times in his four-year Mountain Lion career.
UCCS was the only team from the South Central Region to advance to the national championships. The Mountain Lions matched their best finish in program history with a No. 10 place at the national tournament.
