Mountain Lions Gain Additional Votes in New GolfWorld Poll
NEW YORK CITY - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team improved the number of votes it received in the latest GolfWorld/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Poll released Wednesday. The Mountain Lions are receiving five votes in the new poll, an improvement of two votes from the March 27 poll.
UCCS is ranked No. 36 in the latest GolfStat Division II team rankings after a win earlier this week at the Colorado State-Pueblo Wolf Pack Invitational. The Mountain Lions are ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional rankings from last Friday and a new regional ranking is expected to be released this afternoon.
Eddie DeLashmutt is ranked No. 52 in the GolfStat Division II individual rankings. He led the Mountain Lions at the Wolf Pack Invitational this week and finished second with 213. Kevin Witte is ranked No. 68 after a third-place finish this week in Pueblo with a 217.
Spencer Biersdorff is ranked No. 118 after he recorded his first top five finish of the season this week. He's competed in all 10 tournaments for the Mountain Lions this season and is averaging 73.63 strokes per round.
UCCS will begin the championship season on Monday and Tuesday at the RMAC Championships in Goodyear, Ariz. The Mountain Lions have won six conference championships since the 1999-2000 season.
