Dalzell Leads #17 UCCS After Day One at Brickyard

INDIANAPOLIS - University of Colorado Colorado Springs newcomer Dustin Dalzell shot a 149 (75-74) to lead the No. 17 Mountain Lions after the first two rounds of the Brickyard Invitational today. UCCS is tied for No. 12 among the 17 teams in the tournament.

Dalzell, a junior college transfer from Scottsdale, Ariz., is tied for No. 26 in the individual results at five strokes over par. He improved in his second round as UCCS lowered its team total by eight strokes to 299 in the second round today.

The Mountain Lions are one of eight nationally-ranked teams competing at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course. UCCS is one stroke out of a three-way tie for ninth, and two strokes behind eighth-place Arkansas Tech.

True freshman Dylan Mitchell finished second on the team in his first collegiate appearance with a 150 (75-75) today. He shot for par on 25 of the 36 holes for the ninth-best performance among the 90 golfers. Transfer Stephen Cook improved two strokes in the second round and finished the first day with a 152 (77-75).

Zach Tripp provided the final scores for the Mountain Lions in both rounds with his 155 (80-75). He lowered his score by five strokes in the second round to lead the UCCS improvement to close out the day. Tripp tied for the ninth-best improvement in the field.

Patrick Skakel improved his second round score by two strokes and finished with a 162 (82-80).

UCCS competes in the final round with a 6:30 a.m., MDT, tee time at the Brickyard.
