Kephart Five Strokes Out of Match Play After First Round
BROOKLINE, Mass. - Former University of Colorado Colorado Springs golfer Alex Kephart shot a 37-40 for a score of 77 for seven strokes over part in the first round of the 2013 U.S. Amateur Championships. He stands five strokes out of the top 64 players and a spot in the match play round that begins on Wednesday.
Kephart sits in a tie for No. 205 among the 312 golfers, and is fourth among the seven golfers who qualified from the state of Colorado. He recorded a birdie on the par-3 hole 7 on The Country Club course this morning near the end of his round.
Kephart finished second in his group with Canada's Brian Jung and Pennsylvania's Chris Crawford. Jung finished at 70 (36-38) and Crawford scored 80 (38-42) this morning.
After starting at 5:30 a.m., MDT this morning, Kephart will tee off in the second round of stroke play at 10:45 a.m., MDT, on the championship's companion course, Charles River Country Club. Golfers who played on Charles River today averaged better than 2.5 strokes over their 18 holes.
The top 64 golfers after the second round on Tuesday will advance to match play on Wednesday on The Country Club course.
