Witte Earns PING All-America Honor
NORMAN, Okla. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior golfer Kevin Witte became the first Mountain Lion since 2009 to earn a spot on the PING All-America Teams announced this morning. Witte earned a spot on the Third Team.
Witte won the RMAC Championship and finished second at the NCAA Division II West / South Central Region Championships during the spring season. He led the Mountain Lions at the national championships and finished No. 14 at six strokes over par in late May.
Witte finished in the top three of the standings in five tournaments during the spring season and was a member of the PING All-South Central Region Team, RMAC All-Tournament Team and All-RMAC First Team.
Witte is the first Mountain Lion on the golf All-America teams since Tyler Bishop earned a spot on the honorable mention list in 2009. He's the fifth UCCS golfer to earn All-America honors and it's the sixth All-America mention for the program with Marc Hocking's two awards in 2002 and 2003.
The Mountain Lions matched their best national finish in a tie for No. 10 in the fifth national tournament appearance in program history. UCCS won its 11th RMAC championship in April and was the only team from the South Central Region to qualify for the national championships.
