UCCS Improves to No. 14 in New GolfWorld / Nike National Poll

NEW YORK CITY - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team will enter the 2013 NCAA Division II National Championships ranked No. 14 in the latest GolfWorld / Nike national poll released on Wednesday. The Mountain Lions were one of four unranked teams to enter the top 25 after the regional championships.

UCCS is in the top 25 for the first time in the 2012-13 season after a fourth-place finish at the West / South Central Regional Championships in DuPont, Wash. The Mountain Lions won the 11th RMAC championship in program history by 17 strokes behind a first and second finish by Kevin Witte and Eddie DeLashmutt.

UCCS has four golfers ranked in the top 150 of the GolfStat Division II individual rankings, with Witte ranked No. 18. DeLashmutt is ranked No. 48, Spencer Biersdorff is No. 100 and Grant Dean is No. 147.

The Mountain Lions are in the national championship for the fifth time in program history and the first time since 2009. UCCS will tee off in the first round at 10 a.m. MDT on Monday at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.
