DuPONT, Wash. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs finished with a team score of 282 for six strokes under par and Kevin Witte moved into the tournament lead with a 67 as the Mountain Lions improved to third after the second round of the 2013 NCAA Division II West / South Central Regional Tournament today at The Home Course.

UCCS finished with the best team score of the second round among the 20 teams. It was the best team score of the season for the Mountain Lions and the best since a 279 for nine strokes under par in the third round of the Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational on March 27, 2012.

The score also puts UCCS within two strokes of second place, six strokes behind leader California State-Monterey Bay and six strokes ahead of sixth place Hawaii-Hilo. The top five teams in the regional championships advance to the national championships later this month.

Witte recorded six birdies on the first 10 holes and finished a five under par after a bogey on hole 13. It's his fourth round this season with a 67 or lower, and his second straight tournament after a 67 in the opening round of the RMAC Championship.

Grant Dean improved his score by seven strokes from the first round to second round with three birdies in the final nine holes. His 70 matched his best round of the 2012-13 season and was his best round of the spring season by two strokes. Dean improved by more than 40 positions to No. 45 in the individual standings.

Spencer Biersdorff improved by two strokes today and finished with a 72 in the second round. He birdied the par-three hole 6 and opened the back nine with a birdie. Eddie DeLashmutt provided the final score for the Mountain Lions with a 73, a one-stroke improvement, and recorded two birdies in a three-hole span midway through the round.

Conrad Isley finished with a 75 in the second round in his fifth-best score of the spring season.

The first Mountain Lions will tee off at 1 p.m. MDT. UCCS will be paired with golfers from Chico State and Hawaii-Hilo and will be in the second-to-last group to begin the final round.
