Mountain Lions Win Wolf Pack Invitational
PUEBLO, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team improved by 13 strokes from the first round to the third round and won its first tournament of the season with a score of 872 at Colorado State-Pueblo Wolf Pack Invitational today at the Walking Stick Golf Course.
The win comes against four teams ranked ahead of the Mountain Lions in the latest NCAA Division II South Central Region ranking. Colorado Mines, the second-ranked team in the region, finished 11 strokes behind UCCS today.
Eddie DeLashmutt and Kevin Witte finished second and third, respectively. DeLashmutt matched his career best of 68 in the second round and turned in a 69 in the third round to finish with 213 and at three strokes under par. Witte led the tournament with a 71 in the first round and finished with 73 in the second and third rounds for a 217 and one stroke over par.
Spencer Biersdorff tied for fifth in the individual results with a 219 in his first top-five finish of the season. He shot for par on the second round and improved with a 71 in the third round. He joined with Witte to make a pair of eagles during the tournament and averaged 4.42 strokes on par five holes.
Grant Dean provided the fourth score for the Mountain Lions in the second round with a 76 and finished in a tie for No. 15 overall. Conrad Isley recorded a 72 in the final round for his best performance of the tournament for the final score for UCCS to close out the tournament.
The Mountain Lions will begin the championship schedule next week in the RMAC Championships April 22-23 at the golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
