Mountain Lions Finalize Spring 2013 Schedule
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team will travel to three states, in addition to one tournament in Colorado, during the regular season in the finalized spring 2013 schedule. The Mountain Lions compete in five events before the start of the championship schedule at the end of April.
UCCS opens the spring season March 5-6 at the St. Edward's Invitational in Austin, Texas for the second straight season. The Mountain Lions finished sixth out of 17 teams at last year's tournament, which featured five of the top 10 teams in Division II at the time.
The Mountain Lions travel to the site of last year's conference championships, Phoenix's Wigwam Golf Course, for the Grand Canyon Spring Invitational March 24-26. UCCS will be back in Phoenix the next week, at the Palm Valley Golf Course, for the Western New Mexico Invitational April 2-3.
The NCAA Division II Spring Preview takes place April 7-9 on The Home Course in DuPont, Wash., and it will provide UCCS an early look at the course before the West/South Central Regional Championships are held on the same course on May 6-8. The regular season concludes April 15-16 in the CSU-Pueblo Invitational Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo.
The RMAC Championships return to Phoenix on April 22-23 at the Estrella Golf Course. UCCS will travel back to The Home Course for the regional championships on May 6-8, where a qualifying performance would send the Mountain Lions to the NCAA Division II National Championships at the Hershey (Pa.) Country Club on May 20-24.
UCCS was ranked No. 43 in the final fall Division II GolfStat rankings. The Mountain Lions have won six RMAC championships since joining the conference in the 1997-98 season, more than double any other team in that span.
