Trujillo Signs Young and Hearn to National Letters of Intent

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs Head Men's Golf Coach Phil Trujillo is excited to announce the signings Blake Young and Joey Hearn to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. The pair is the first signees in the Mountain Lion's 2012-13 recruiting class for men's golf.

Young is a senior at Trinidad High School in Trinidad, Colo., is an 18-time meadalist in 2012. He was the 2012 Suncountry Junior PGA Player of the Year after he medaled in seven tournaments this year. Young is a four-time Southern Colorado 3A All-Conference selection and a member of the 2011 Colorado All-Academic Golf Team. He also won the Tri-Peaks 3A League championships this fall.

Young, the son of Mark Young and Kathleen Wischmeier, helped lead the Miners to the Colorado 3A state finals all four years and a runner-up finish in his freshman season. Trinidad won the Southern Colorado 3A Region all four seasons and went undefeated in league play in those seasons.

Young is a member of the National Honor Society with a 4.0 grade point average. He's been active with the local animal shelter and this church's youth group.

Hearn helped lead Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas, to the 4A state championship during the 2011-12 season. He earned First Team All-Region, Second Team All-District and won the Texas Junior Golf Tour Greyrock Junior Championship and TJGT Live Oak Junior Championship last season. He medaled at two more events.

The Mountain Lions continue the 2012-13 season in March with the St. Edward's Invitational on March 4-5 in Austin, Texas. UCCS was ranked No. 43 in the final fall Division II GolfStat standings.
