By Jared Verner published September 24, 2012

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Spencer Biersdorff shot five strokes under par in the opening round and finished in a tie for No. 10 after the first two rounds of the second RMAC event today at the Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood, Colo. The University of Colorado Colorado Springs tied for eighth in the team standings with most of the team's top golfers staying at home.

Biersdorff's 67 in the first round was the second-best round among the 56 golfers on the course, and he ended the first day at four strokes under par as the top unattached golfer in the field. His scores are not factoring into the team score for UCCS during the tournament.

The four scoring golfers for the Mountain Lions all finished within two shots of each other, ranging from one under par to one over par. Zach Tripp led the group with a 143 over the two rounds, with Michael Tilghman, Patrick Skakel and Matt Vanderbeek each tied at No. 26 with a 145. Vanderbeek shot three strokes under par on his second round to move into the tie.

UCCS was tied with Western New Mexico in the team standings and is 29 strokes ahead of Adams State. The Mountain Lions are within one stroke of Regis and six strokes of Colorado Christian going into the final round on Tuesday morning.
