Dean in Eighth, UCCS Fifth as Team After Day One of Miranda Invitational

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Grant Dean shot two strokes under par in the opening round and even in the second round to finish in a tie for eighth overall for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs after the first day of the Gene Miranda Invitational at the U.S. Air Force Academy's Eisenhower Golf Course. The Mountain Lions stand fifth in the team standings among 15 other Division I programs.

Dean shot 70 on the opening round to tie for seventh among the 87 golfers on the Eisenhower Blue Course with three birdies over a four-hole span from holes four through seven. He shot for par during the afternoon round, including another birdie on the par-three hole seven. Dean stands three shots behind co-leaders Jason Burstyn of Colorado and Kyle Westmoreland of Air Force.

Spencer Biersdorff shot a 69 on the opening round to tie for third, but a 75 on the second round put him at par at the end of the day and tied for No. 19. Eddie DeLashmutt improved on his second round with a 72 to stand at one stroke over par on the first day. Conrad Isley also improved on his second round with a 74 and is tied at No. 48 with seven strokes over par to round out the scoring Mountain Lions.

UCCS sits with a team score of 582 at six strokes over par and five strokes behind fourth-place Coastal Carolina. Colorado leads the team scoring after the first two rounds with a 567 for nine strokes below par.

The final round begins on the Blue Course at 8:15 a.m., Monday morning.
