UCCS Picked Fifth in RMAC Poll, DeLashmutt Named Preseason All-Conference
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Returning First Team All-RMAC golfer Eddie DeLashmutt earned preseason individuals while the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team earned a fifth-place pick in the 2012 RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll released this afternoon. The Mountain Lions earned two first place votes and finished four voting points behind the preseason runner-up.
UCCS tied for fourth in the RMAC standings last season, and finished one point behind Western New Mexico in the voting. The Mountain Lions finished two points behind Colorado Mesa in the voting and four points behind Colorado State-Pueblo.
Since the Mountain Lions joined the RMAC in the 1997-98 season, UCCS has won six RMAC championships, more than double any other conference school in that span. The Mountain Lions won three straight championships from the 2007-08 through the 2009-10 season.
DeLashmutt led the Mountain Lions at the RMAC championships and during the second conference event last fall, and finished second for UCCS at the opening conference event last September. He was the RMAC Golfer of the Week in March and a two-time junior college All-American at Mesa (Ariz.) Community College.
UCCS opens the 2012-13 season at the Gene Miranda Invitational Sept. 9-10, hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy. The first RMAC meet will be held Sept. 17-18 at the Black Canyon Golf Course in Montrose, Colo.
