Golf Team Heads into Winter Ranked No. 12 and No. 13

COLORADO SPRINGS - The University of Colorado Springs golf team is going into the winter ranked 12th nationally in the Golfstat ranking and 13th in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll.

The Mountain Lions will hold onto the ranking spot in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll throughout the winter season. This final poll was released on Nov. 23, where the Mountain Lions jumped up from their previous ranking No. 17 on Nov. 7 to the current No. 13.

While the ranking is impressive, it's not the best posted by a UCCS golf team. In 2006, the Mountain Lions went into the winter ranked No. 1 nationally.

The Mountain Lions still hold their inactive period sitting in the No. 12 in the Golfstat NCAA Division II Head-to-Head ratings, which is the resource most used when determining qualifiers for the NCAA Super Regionals. The Golfstat rankings are based, along with other criteria, on division comparative wins (record vs. other Division II teams), adjusted scoring average, average drop score and record vs. top 25 teams. The last update to the Golfstat rankings was on Nov. 30.

UCCS will resume play on March 5-6 at the St. Edward's Argonaut Invitational in Austin, Texas.
