Mountain Lions in Second After First Day of Grand Canyon Invitational

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - Spencer Biersdorff and Grant Dean each shot 3-under par to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs into second place after the first two rounds of the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational Monday to Wigwam Golf Club.

Biersdorff's 3-under par 69 was tied for the second-best score in the first round, which was played Monday morning. Dean matched the score in the day's afternoon round, which was also the second-best round shot. Each paired their 69s with even-par 72s.

The Mountain Lion duo finished the day in a third-place tie individually at 141. Western Washington's Dylan Goodwin shot a 6-under par 138, while Chico State's Kyle Souza was second at 139.

No. 3-ranked Chico State had four players shoot under par en route to a first-round 278, nine strokes better than No. 23 UCCS. The Mountain Lions cut that gap in the second round, though, matching their morning round while Chico State shot a 291. The teams go into Tuesday's final round five strokes apart.

California Baptist and No. 8 Western Washington finished Monday tied for third at 578, four strokes behind UCCS. No. 12 Sonoma State was fifth at 582, Cal State-San Bernardino was sixth at 587 and No. 24 Grand Canyon and Montana State-Billings were tied at 588.

Close behind Dean and Biersdorff among UCCS golfers was Edward Delashmutt a 145 (1-over par) and Kevin Witte at 147. Mitch Buchner shot a 155.

Not only will the team take the tournament title home, but Eddie DeLashmutt won the individual title as well. DeLashmutt, following up his recent RMAC Golfer of the Week honor, shot 225 over three rounds to take the individual title. One shot behind DeLashmutt was teammate Spencer Biersdoff, who finished tied for 2nd place with his stellar three rounds. March 29, 2012Eddie DeLashmutt RMAC Men's Golfer of the WeekUCCS Mountain Lion Eddie Delashmutt shot a nine-under par (207) to tie for first place out of 100 golfers at the Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invite in Litchfield Park, Arizona (Wigwam Golf Course). He carded a 69 in each of the three rounds, helping the Mountain Lions finish third out of 20 teams.
March 28, 2012#20 Mountain Lion take 3rd at the Grand Canyon University InviteThe UCCS men's golf team continued their Spring season by traveling to Grand Canyon University to compete in the Thunderbird Invite this past week. The Mountain Lion continued to impress, playing against some of the best competition that NCAA Division II has to offer, finishing 3rd overall in the tournament. Impressively, the Mountain Lions were led by Eddie DeLashmutt who shot 69 in all three of his rounds at the long, tough Wigwam Golf Course. DeLashmutt finished tied for 1st overall among individual finishers.
