UCCS Adds Two Nationally-Ranked JUCO Golfers
University of Colorado Colorado Springs golf coach Phil Trujillo announced Friday that he had signed two nationally-ranked JUCO golfers, Edward Delashmutt and Kevin Witte, both from powerful mesa Community College in Mesa, Ariz.
Delashmutt is ranked No. 6 nationally among junior college players by Golfstat, the recognized authority for collegiate golf. A National Junior College Athletics Association first-team All-American in 2010, he has a good chance at repeating the honor for 2011 after winning three tournaments this past season. The third of those, the regional tournament at Palm Valley, Ariz., Delashmutt smoked the field for a 10-stroke victory.
The Portland, Ore., native ranked No. 9 nationally on par 4s this season and 25th on par 5s. He had a stroke average of 73.05 for Mesa CC, which was ranked No. 2 nationally in NJCAA Division II.
Witte comes to the Mountain Lions as the nation's No. 34 ranked JUCO golfer with a 74.15 stroke average. On par 5s, he ranks No. 5 nationally and on par 4s he ranks No. 12.
Witte missed qualifying for the 2010 junior nationals by just two strokes. After shooting a 6-under par 66 in the first round of the qualifier at Wigwam Golf Resort, the Phoenix native finished the tournament at even par.
