UCCS Holds One Stroke Lead After Two Rounds of RMAC Spring Championship
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - Four Mountain Lions shot a 4-under par 140 in Monday's two rounds as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs finished the first day of the RMAC Spring Championship with a one-stroke lead.
Chris Shoop, Brian Morfeld, Riley Andrews and Spencer Biersdorff each shot 140, putting the quartet in a tie for sixth place individually. Jim Knous of Colorado School of Mines, Adam Fields of Wayne State and Gavin Lyons of Fort Lewis were tied for the individual lead at 137.
The Mountain Lions' team score of 560 was a stunning 16-under par at the par 72 Wigwam Golf Club. Fort Lewis came in one stroke back, followed by Colorado Mines and Colorado State-Pueblo, both three strokes behind.
UCCS is one point ahead of Fort Lewis in its quest to win a sixth consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team title. That means the Skyhawks have to beat UCCS by one place to tie for the title and by two places to win it outright. UCCS needs to defeat Fort Lewis.
Michael Tilghman was the fifth finisher in both rounds for UCCS, yet still shot a 1-under par 145.
