UCCS in Seventh-Place Tie After First Two Rounds of Grand Canyon Spring Invitational

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Brian Morfeld shot a 2-under par 142 as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs completed the first two rounds, both played Monday, of the Grand Canyon Invitational tied for seventh place.

The Mountain Lions were in third place after shooting a team score of 296 in the first round. They were nearly as good in the afternoon round at 298, but other teams scored well enough to leapfrog UCCS.

Chico State, ranked No. 1 nationally, goes into Tuesday's final round leading at 582. Host Grand Canyon is second, one stroke back, followed by Dixie State (588), Point Loma Nazarene (590) and No. 4 Western Washington (591).

Morfeld is tied with Grand Canyon's Matt Pridey for third place individually. The duo is one stroke behind the co-leaders, Point Loma Nazarene's Ryan Ellerbrock and UC San Diego's Jacob Williams.

Riley Andrews was next best among UCCS golfers with a 3-over par 147. He was followed by Chris Shoop (151), Spencer Biersdorff (154) and Michael Tilghman (162).
