UCCS Golfers in Sixth Place After One Round at SoCal Championships
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - Chris Shoop's 4-over par 75 led the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Monday as the Mountain Lions opened their spring season at the 61st SoCal Intercollegiate Championships at Mission Viejo Country Club.
Although two rounds were scheduled to be completed on Monday, weather delays - including one for hail - prevented the second round from being completed. It will be finished early Tuesday, followed by the third (and final) round.
The rust from the five-month layoff showed in Monday's round. Brion Morfeld (79), Riley Andrews (80), Mitch Buchner (81) and Spencer Biersdorff (82) all scored well over their season stroke averages.
The team leaders were, not surprisingly, from warm-weather states. St. Edwards (Texas) and Sonoma (Calif.) State led the way at 301. They were followed by Central Oklahoma at 303.
Washburn was fourth at 309, UC-San Diego was fifth at 311 and UCCS was at 315.
