UCCS Enters Spring Season Ranked 11th in the Nation
The first Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Poll of the spring season has been released and UCCS is ranked eleventh in the nation. The poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
UCCS is the only RMAC School to appear on the list after their excellent fall season where they finished 1st of 15, 1st of 18, 2nd of 20, 2nd of 18, and 1st out of 15 teams in their five tournaments.
The Chico State Wildcats were awarded the number one ranking, receiving seventeen of the first place votes, moving from fourth (in the final poll of the fall season) to first and becoming the third different school to occupy the top spot during the 2010-11 season (joining Florida Southern and North Alabama).
No. 2 Western Washington and No. 3 Lynn swapped spots, the former earning five first-place votes and the later claiming four. North Alabama, the No. 1 team at the end of the fall season, fell to No. 4 after a 10th-place finish at the Matlock Collegiate. With three fall victories, however, the Lions still garnered one first-place vote. Rounding out the top five is West Florida, which claimed the team title at the Matlock.
Two new schools joined the top 10: No. 9 Georgia College and No. 10 Barry and three new schools cracked the top 25: No. 23 Delta State, No. 24 Saint Martins and No. 25 USC-Aiken.
UCCS ended the fall season ranked 10th and fell one spot in the most recent poll but will be back in action on March 21st in the SoCal Invitational in Mission Viejo California, where they will look to climb back into the top ten.
